Challenge

Following the widespread damage caused by Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023, 42 Cambourne Road was left requiring significant remediation, with the property assessed under the Auckland Council Cat 2P Property Risk Mitigation Scheme. To support a retrospective claim, the homeowner needed a clear, defensible breakdown of the costs involved in lifting and repairing the house - separating what was covered by insurance from what constituted betterment. Andrew Carline engaged BPM to independently assess the cost of the house-lift works and reconcile the spend into categories the Council scheme would recognise.

Approach

BPM's quantity surveying team carried out a detailed assessment of the house lift costs, reconciling all spent data into three clear categories: remediation work covered by the client's insurance, mitigation work associated with lifting the house, and betterment works required to bring the building up to current code. This structured breakdown gave the client a robust, evidence-based position ahead of engaging with the Council.
