The importance of well-being in construction.

At BPM, we’re committed to going beyond traditional on-site safety. As a Mental Health First Aid certified business, our team is equipped to identify, support, and manage mental distress in the workplace. We focus on early intervention, long-term wellbeing strategies, and self-care for those supporting others.

Our Health and Wellbeing Programme includes:

  • Weekly team fitness sessions during work hours

  • Personal development goals built into business KPIs

  • Ongoing training in safety and mental health, including Co-Liberate MHFA

  • Team challenges and events like HYROX and charity fitness events like MATES In Construction Long Laps Challenge

We believe strong mental health builds stronger teams. Our approach fosters a connected, supportive workplace culture—reflected in both our people and our project outcomes. BPM is proud to lead by example, creating lasting impact within our teams and across the construction industry.

We’re also committed to industry-leading physical safety. Our team holds Site Safe certifications, and BPM maintains SiteWise Gold Accreditation nationwide.

At BPM we do it well, whether that's looking after your project or looking after people

After seeing the benefits first-hand of a wellbeing programme BPM decided to take it to the projects we manage and became the first project management company in New Zealand to establish a well-being package as a basic requirement for those who work alongside us.

Our Contractor Wellness Package was introduced to further position contractors as part of our extended team and is a part of the BPM tender process as a non-price attribute.

In May 2019, we also introduced a Contractor Wellness Survey to give the people working on our project sites a voice to communicate with us on their own well-being and what we can do together, as a team, to improve the overall wellbeing of our projects.

Award-Winning Leaders in Construction Safety and Wellbeing

In November 2019, BPM was proud to receive the Leadership in Construction Safety Award from Site Safe NZ, recognising our commitment to improving both physical and mental wellbeing on construction sites.

Since receiving this national safety award, we've taken on a leadership and advisory role—collaborating with contractors, consultants, and clients to enhance safety and mental health practices across the industry. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all model, we provide tailored support through consultation, resources, and practical problem-solving.

At BPM, our mission goes beyond compliance. We aim to change the culture of construction, break the stigma around mental health, and create workplaces where it’s OK to not feel OK.

By supporting others in the industry and championing a holistic approach to construction site safety, we’re helping lead a shift toward more resilient, supportive, and high-performing teams.

Awarded the ACC Workplace Safety Gold Award at the Wellington Gold Awards

Because we walk the walk, we didn’t just rest there and in 2021, we were awarded the ACC Workplace Safety Award at the Wellington Gold Awards for our innovative HSEW Framework focusing on the improvement of mental health specifically for the construction industry.

Developed alongside wellbeing-enterprise Co-Liberate and one of our Clients, the framework provides a practical way to manage mental health on site as an integrated part of on site Health and Safety.

We’re always adding to our offering and getting (good) sh*t done
